A full-day tour of southern Armenia. The highlight is Tatev Monastery on the edge of the Vorotan gorge: its main church was built in 895–906, and in the 14th–15th centuries it housed Tatev University, one of the leading centres of learning in medieval Armenia. You can ride up to the monastery on the Wings of Tatev, a 5.7 km ropeway listed in the Guinness World Records. Next comes the cave village of Khndzoresk, where people lived in rock-cut dwellings until the mid-20th century, with a 160-metre swinging bridge 63 metres above the gorge. Then the 16-metre Shaki Waterfall, and a tasting at a winery in Areni to end the day. The ropeway ticket is paid separately: 6,500 AMD, one way only on the group tour. Meals are not included. In bad weather Khndzoresk may be replaced with Old Goris.
