A day tour of the monasteries of Lori along the Debed Canyon. Sanahin and Haghpat, both founded in the 10th century, were listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. At Sanahin we walk through the galleries and library of one of the great centres of learning in medieval Armenia. At Haghpat we see the Cathedral of Surb Nshan, completed in 991, and the Amenaprkich khachkar from 1273. Next comes Akhtala Monastery on a rocky outcrop inside fortress walls. Its main church is famous for early 13th-century frescoes covering the walls, arches and pillars. The day ends at Aramyants Castle. Meals are not included.
